It was a David and Goliath tale, uniquely South Texas, that ultimately transformed the way public schools were funded across the state.
At the heart of this monumental challenge was Al Kauffman, the lead attorney for MALDEF, who filed a lawsuit against Kirby & TEA, claiming extreme disparities in the financing of public schools, particularly those near our border. Although the case took place in the 1980s, Kauffman’s legacy lives on today.
The Webb County Democratic Party was privileged to host him recently, accompanied by local Democratic leaders. Kauffman emphasized the power of our vote and our voice, stressing the need to remain alert and active as the pivotal 2024 elections approach.
Indeed, it is a particularly great day when dedicated voices, committed to the community, come together.
